Pathways for Youth
This is a massive passion of mine.
Trying to narrow down a career path is daunting. There are so many options out there and whilst schools do their best to steer students down relevant paths, one on one focus is a huge advantage and more importantly I believe there is a fundamental link missing in standard career guidance. For me that is an initial connection to industry.
You don't have to see the whole staircase, Just take the first step
My coaching approach is to help youth understand what they love, what they are good at, visualising what activities they might be doing in the future, what’s important to them, what their strengths and skills are, what life/business problems they might want to solve.
Once they’ve narrowed it down , it is then so important for the youth to experience what they think they like the sound of, try it out, even if it’s a micro dose. My approach is to connect the youth in their areas of interest with relevant businesses. This could be for ½-1 day of observation, working for pay or no pay in the holidays or weekends, anything that gives them a taste. If required, I will make the connection and then the youth and the business can make the arrangements.
Once their ambitions are confirmed, then we start looking at the pathway to the industry/role/qualifications/training.
